These recipes all have a little something extra added to help boost your immune system and fight off some of those winter woes.

Here is a quick list of some of the things you will find in these recipes and how they will help your body fight off those pesky winter ailments.

  • Colorful fruits and vegetables like; red and green bell peppers, yellow squash, spinach, eggplant, tomatoes, carrots, broccoli, strawberries, blueberries, oranges are all full of antioxidants and nutrients like folate, vitamin C and zinc that help boost your immune system.
  • Garlic-when it comes to garlic, more is better especially in your recipes. Garlic contains allicin, a powerful antioxidant and many studies have suggested a link between garlic and cold prevention.
  • Lean Beef is rich in iron and zinc. Both of which are necessary for a strong immune system. In addition the iron found in beef is the type that is most easily absorbed by your body.
  • Honey-can help a cough by coating and soothing an irritated throat.  Not only can it help reduce your cough but it can help you sleep better at night.
  • Apple Cider Vinegar-your body becomes more alkaline during a cold and the apple cider vinegar will help to rebalanced the body's acid level.
  • Spicy Peppers (including cayenne)-these peppers contain Capsaicin, which can thin mucus and open up your nasal passages.
  • Yogurt-contains live active cultures or "Probiotics" that help your digestive system and may even stimulate white blood cells.
